I always crave for a big hit: Akshay Kumar (Interview)

Mumbai, Dec 1 (IANS) Akshay Kumar's last two outings - "Khatta Meetha" and "Action Replayy" - failed to make the cash registers jingle. This hasn't dampened the Bollywood star's spirit but he admits he is craving for a big hit and hopes his "Tees Maar Khan" will hit bull's eye.

"If you follow my career graph, there have been a lot of ups and downs. It doesn't matter. I am not desperate, but, yes, I crave for a big hit all the time because I work very hard. I release around four films a year. I work very hard in each and every film," Akshay told IANS in an interview.

His last release was "Action Replayy" and the 43-year-old star feels either the screenplay or his retro look in "Action Replayy" couldn't connect with the audience.

" 'Action Replayy' didn't work. It couldn't connect with the audience. I tried to reason out and I think it would be because of the look or because of the screenplay," said Akshay, who is also known for his comic timing. He tickled the funny bone with movies like "Hera Pheri", "Singh is Kinng" and "Namastey London".

Right now he is looking forward to his action-packed fun film "Tees Maar Khan", which is scheduled for a Christmas release. Director Farah Khan is presenting him as a conman.

"This is a fun character, full of enjoyment. He (the character) is a conman and so there is a lot of mischief. The character is actually very shrewd. He always tries fooling people because he wants to make it big. He never does anything himself; he makes people do things for him. I haven't done such a fun and frolic role for a long time," said Akshay.

He is known for action movies like "Khiladi" and "Mohra" and says he would love to do serious movies but regrets there are no takers for such stories.

"If you ask me whether I would like to do a serious film, yes, I would love to do serious roles, serious characters. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. No one comes to see serious films. All look for fun films.

"I have tried doing something or the other and I will keep doing it if I get a good script. There are certain types of people who don't want straight or hard-hitting films. You have to understand your audience and keep on doing something - this is what my experience tells me. I haven't done any romantic film either.

"Also, I have to understand the business...I can't do a film to satisfy myself; I have to satisfy others because I am an entertainer," said Akshay.

Undeterred by failures, the actor has big plans for next year.

"I have not given up. Next year I am doing a very high-end action film with Prabhu Deva," said Akshay.

After impressing one and all with her performance in Dabangg, Sonakshi Sinha is certainly a hot property. The pretty actress has been signed by Shirish Kunder for his ambitious 3D directorial venture Joker. Sonakshi would be paired opposite none other than Akshay Kumar inJoker. 

Explaining his choice of why Sonakshi for the leading lady, Shirish reasons, "Sonakshi fitted the role perfectly. Hers is an extremely performance oriented character which is there throughout the film with Akshay. Besides another reason for choosing Sonakshi is the fact that she and Akki would be a fresh on-screen pair considering Akshay has worked with most of the top leading ladies." Unlike Dabangg in which she played a village belle, Sonakshi would be seen playing a modern girl in Joker. 

Besides Akshay and Sonakshi, Joker would also boast of a huge supporting cast which Shirish would be announcing in the days to come. Commenting on whether there will be some Hollywood technicians involved considering that it's a 3-D film, Shirish says, "Most of the technicians will be from India but yes, since this a new technology, we would be using the expertise of some experienced names from Hollywood too." 

Joker is a co-production between Farah Khan & Shirish Kunder's Three's Company and Akshay's Hari Om Entertainment. The film goes on floors in January 2011 and will be mostly shot all around India.

Mumbai, Nov 15 (IANS) Just like filmmaker Farah Khan's brand of cinema, the music launch of " Tees Maar Khan " was grand, colourful and entertaining. That's because Bollywood stars Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif released it in a moving train!

The Special Train, meant only for the media and the film's cast and crew, left Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) station for Lonavala two-and-a-half hours away Sunday. The Train had posters of the film all over and even a red carpet inside to Welcome everyone. 

"It's an important film for us and I Wanted to do something out-of-the-box, " said Farah.

A Train was used as the venue for the launch because the film features a major Train heist. " Tees Maar Khan", an action comedy, is set to hit the screens Dec 24. It also stars Akshaye Khanna.

After a delay of two hours, The Train left for its destination. The journey was laced with entertainment. First, composers Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravijiani entertained everyone with a live performance and then the star cast consisting of Akshay, dressed like his character in the film, and Katrina, greeted everyone by going from compartment to compartment.

This is the first time the music of a film is being released in this manner as Farah said she Wanted to do something different. 

Even the actors of the film didn't seem to have a problem with The Train ride and seemed to quite enjoy the whole process.

"I have always loved travelling in a Train and it's nice to be doing that again. I think this a wonderful way of launching the music, different and Fun, " Katrina, who was dressed in a peach pink short dress, told IANS.

Once The Train reached Lonavala station, more drama was in store. A wedding band started belting out numbers like " Tees Maar Khan " and " Sheila ki jawani " from the film and the people present at the station were excited to the hilt when they saw Akshay and Katrina alighting from the train. 

Then everyone headed to the hotel for lunch, where another performances by dancers were awaiting the guests.
